PE Syllabus

NMS PE Mission Statement

It is the goal of the Physical Education department to promote physical fitness, skill development, and social interaction through exercise, skill drills, and cooperative play, while emphasizing that students should exercise safely and participate to the best of their ability.

 

Grading Policy:

Students will be given the opportunity to earn 5 points each day (25 points weekly) by meeting the following expectations:

Physical Education Expectations

  • Students will show sportsmanship
  • Students will be participate in daily activities
  • Students will participate in the daily run
  • Students will show a willingness to improve their fitness level
  • Students will adhere to the Norris Knight virtues:
    • We are Respectful
    • We are Responsible
    • We are Safe

 

PE Excuses:

Notes should be handed to the teacher before class begins.

Notes from home can only excuse a student up to 3 days. Notes should be clear and specific as to dates and physical limitations.

Doctor notes should be clear and specific as to the dates and physical limitations. If a student has a doctor’s note to a specific date, they may only be released per the doctor’s orders.

Makeups:

Students may be required to make up physical activity when they are absent or on a PE excuse at the teacher’s convenience.  A curriculum for absences and medical excuses will be coming soon.  More information to follow.

 

Class Rules:

Students will be on time.

Students will exhibit sportsmanship at all times.

Students will follow directions the first time.

Students will respect equipment and the facilities.

Students will participate to the best of their ability.

Students will obey all school rules. 

 

Failure to comply with these rules may result in the following:

1st infraction – verbal warning with clarification of the infraction.

2nd infraction – student will be taken out of the activity and lose participation points.

3rd infraction – Call home/detention

4th infraction – Sent to dean

*Students may receive an automatic detention or sent to the dean for severity of infraction.

 

Activities

Because of our growing population and weather/air concerns, developing units for maximum participation can be challenging. Our goal is to teach two units per quarter.

 

Possible activities your child may participate in this year:

  • Volleyball/Volley Tennis
  • Badminton

  • Disc Golf/Ultimate Frisbee

  • Volley Baseball
  • Capture the Flag
  • Pickle Ball

Mile/Half Mile

Students will run a mile or a half-mile once a week. Students must complete the mile under 13 minutes and the half mile under 6 minutes. The daily lap must be completed under 3 minutes.

 

Curriculum Alert:

7th Grade PE students will participate in Fitness Testing beginning in March. Testing will include the mile, sit and reach, trunk lift, curl ups, and push-ups.
