8th Grade Science

Class overview

Welcome to Science! This year, we will explore the world around (and beyond) us by asking questions, thinking critically, and working together like real scientists and engineers. Our class follows the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which are California’s current science learning goals. NGSS encourages learning through inquiry, meaning you’ll learn by doing, experimenting, and solving problems, not just memorizing facts.

Throughout the year, we will cover important topics in:

  • Physical Science – how matter and energy interact

  • Life Science – how living things grow, change, and interact

  • Earth and Space Science – our planet, weather, climate, and the universe

  • Engineering and Technology – designing solutions to real-world challenges

In this class, you will practice skills that go beyond science, like reading complex texts, writing clearly, using data, and collaborating with your peers. These skills will prepare you for high school and beyond in our fast-changing, tech-based world.

Whether you’re designing experiments, building models, analyzing graphs, or making claims based on evidence, you’ll grow into a more confident, curious, and capable learner.
