Self-Care & Wellness

Essentially, there are FOUR main categories of Self-Care that we should be practicing each day.  These categories are: Mental, Physical, Emotional, and Purpose.  When we feel our best physically and emotionally, we are better able to handle the stressors that life throws our way.  Best of all, we can support others in our lives when we first take the time to meet our own needs. Self-care benefits our overall health and promotes healthy relationships.
MENTAL SELF-CARE
(Reduce the things that make you feel overwhelmed)

  • Remember to BREATHE and let things go
  • Meditate, pray or practice yoga
  • Turn off your phone/device
  • Check things off of your to-do list
  • Say 'no' to activities you don't have time or mental energy for
  • Stop apologizing for everything
  • Stick to your budget
PHYSICAL SELF-CARE
(Stay healthy and maintain energy)
  • MOVE your body at least 30 minutes per day
  • Go to bed on time (set a sleep schedule and stick to it)
  • Eat healthy (make sure to get vegetables, grains, and fruits)
  • Pack healthy snacks when you leave your home

EMOTIONAL SELF-CARE
(Create happiness and surround yourself with joy)
  • CREATE just for the sake of it (not because you want it to be your side-hustle)
  • Get dinner, call, or facetime with a friend
  • Sing (loudly and off-key) in the car
  • Do kind things for others
  • Start a gratitude journal and write 10 things each morning that you are thankful for
  • Spend time in nature

PURPOSE SELF-CARE
(Maintain focus on your academic and future goals)

  • ENGAGE your mind with new topics
  • Consult with peers/classmates
  • Read about subjects and topics that interest you
  • Research webinars and talk to people who have already achieved the thing you are working on
  • Regulate procrastination so you don't feel overwhelmed and lose interest in your goals
