Yondr

NMS is excited to partner with an organization called Yondr.  Yondr employs a simple, lockable pouch that safely stores a cellphone.  Students would insert their phone into the pouch at the beginning of first period, lock it, and will be able to unlock the pouch at the end of the last period of the day.  Yondr is used in over 1,000 schools across the world, and the goal of the pouch is to have students be fully present and engaged with their teachers and classmates.  Other schools that have implemented Yondr on their campuses have seen dramatic improvements in student academic performance and student behavior.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if there is a school emergency?

In the case of an emergency, school staff will direct our students to safety first.  All teachers will be equipped with an unlocking base station, and will be able to unlock pouches in a matter of seconds once students are in a safe and secure location.

What if I want to reach my child during the school day?

We want our students to be fully engaged in their learning.  If you need to contact your child, please call the Norris Middle School front office at 387-7060 and our office staff will reach your child.

Will my student’s phone be safe?

Yes.  Students will be in possession of their phone - in their Yondr pouch - for the entire school day.

What if the pouch gets damaged?

The Yondr pouch belongs to Norris Middle School just like any other school supply.  If a student damages a Yondr pouch, they will be held responsible.  The student’s phone will be held in the office for safekeeping, and a parent would be asked to come to school to pick it up.

What if I forget my pouch at home?

The Norris Middle School office will have extra pouches to loan.  These pouches must be returned to the front office at the end of the day.
