Classroom Management
Rules, Procedures, and Points

Classroom Management is vital to the cultivation of a successful learning environment and rehearsal space in band. Here are the Rules and Expectations for band that I expect all band students to follow:

1. Enter the room and walk with a sense of urgency.
2. Get your instrument, A PENCIL and music out and sit in assigned seat.
3. Warm Up on your instrument using exercises in your book at the start of class.
4. Be safe and respectful of others AND their instruments. Do not play or touch an instrument other than your own. The timpani is not a table; do not place materials on the timpani. No horseplay is allowed.
5. No food, gum, or sugary drinks are allowed. ONLY water.
6. The podium rule: quiet, alert, and attentive; when I am on the podium, you are focused on the rehearsal.

Consequences if Rules are NOT followed:

1. Warning and loss of participation points for day
2. Loss of points for the week and phone call home.
3. After School Detention

*Mistreatment of instrument, others’ instrument or two detentions may result in expulsion from band program.*

Daily Participation Points (5 pts/day)

Band is very much a participation and performance based class. Therefore, 30% of the student's grade is based on their behavior, participation, and effort in class everyday. Here is how the Participation Points add up:

1. On time to rehearsal.

2. Have your instrument out, warming up, with music, pencil, and folder

3. Podium Rule: Quiet, Alert and Attentive when teacher is on the podium. Cell phones off and put away. Please raise your hand if you have a question or comment.

4. Water Only! NO FOOD or GUM.

5. A team player with a positive and respectful attitude.
